"The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald was arguably the finest conceiving jazz singer of all time (although some may ballot for Sarah Vaughan or Billie Holiday). Blessed with a beautiful voice and a stupendous range, Fitzgerald could outswing anyone, was a bright scat singer, and had near-fashionable elocution; one could always understand the bruit she sang. The one fault was that, perception that she always sounded so favorable to exist singing, Fitzgerald did not at all times punch below the surface of the lyrics she interpreted...
